How did CM actually get hired?
Well CM had a few friends in Lex, but not many.
UK had hired as President of the University a guy by the name of David Roselle. No count SOB.
HE HATED UK SPORTS, PERIOD!
Basketball and Football, but in particular Basketball. He hated basketball because of course Rupp was a raciest and the program needed to be dismantled.
He had heard about CM and his views of UK and he threw a UK hero, Cliff Hagan under a huge bus. Destroyed him and then fired him.
People were ready to kick Roselle's ass.
So Roselle decided that he would really f%@! UK and hire CM.
They couldn't even have a sit down in Lex at the time. They had to meet about 1/2 between Lex and Nashville.
With no approval by anyone, Roselle hired CM.
He told CM if you have to destroy the program do what you have to do,
And thats pretty much how it began,
Most of my buds here know there is one thing you can say to me that causes blood to spurt from my eye balls and that is when you bring up the subject of Eric "Moon" Manual.
But the list of people that got f%@!ed is endless.

AS I stated in an earlier quote, roselle was a POS. C2K covered the details but please note that the POS served 2, yes 2 years as president before they rode his ass out of town, just 2 years too late. He did his best to destroy us in 2 years and yes he was the worst communist, but as CHL stated, it was a close race with oswald who got 4 years as pres.
Yes the 2 biggest POS's served the shortest term of all 9 UK pres but did more damage in 6 years than anyone could have done in 30.
All the lives destroyed by these 2 and we wonder how stalin fooled so many for so long.

while I can't say I agree with connecting the dots, its threads with info like this that did put DD on the map and differentiates it from E/D sites like CatsPause.
Would like to hear more about the Kanter thread that was deleted at HOB

The book im waiting for?
The book that really goes into the CM history.
I mean a total hard facts book. No bs about how he was good for the game, or how many people he knew,
or how he saved us fromt he death penality (bull shit)
Just a cold hard facts of who he really was,
Let the facts fall where they may when its all said and done,
I can live with it that I will promise you,

I think we are a Georgia NOW, we are beating them every other year and doing so with less talent. I agree UK should have hired Howard, that was the second worst football decision UK has ever made. Sorry, katman but we are not a Georgia. Not even close. We rank only above Vandy in the SEC East. We have room to move up the ladder but we have to break three streaks before we can be taken seriously. Florida, Tennessee and South Carolina. We must win at least an occasional game against these three. If Georgia thought their program was on par with kentucky, trust me I live here, the Head Coach would be fired by noon today. If we do become their equal, they will have a new coach.

Alabama laughed at us when we hired Bill Curry. It was the same laugh we were doing when Minnesota hired the turd.

Have to agree with CHL, if the Dawgs have another year like last ykear in football then Richt will be on the hot seat afterburner and may not survive. This is after losing 5 games last year, and a very sorry season it was.
But to compare the CAts to the Dawgs in football is almost as far fetched as comparing the Dawgs to the Cats in basketball. Two different worlds. I was as UK during the days of the 'Thin Thirty' and for those of you too young to recall, we had THIRTY guys left on scholarship. I remember the game in the early 60's when we went to watch Fran Tarkenton in a tsunami rain at Stoll field. We went to see Fran only. And 50 years later we still are an SEC stepchild in football. Yeh I know it hurts but after the Bear left we have paid many times over.
And Charlie Bradshaw, a Bear alum, was the worst of the worst. He told Larry Seiple, I think it was him, never to fake a kick again after he had won the game with a fake punt. Some ole timer help me out here.
I hope we break the barrier and beat Tenn, Ga, S Carolina, Auburn, Florida and Alabama in the same year but it ain't happening.
Roundball is king and always will be.
JMHO.

If my memory serves me right, I believe it was Larry Seiple (although I may have posted the wrong name recently when referencing this same play on the Football board) who ran that punt back. I was at that game, and remember hearing Bradshaw after the game, on the radio (I was listening in the car on the way home), after the game declaring that we would not be seeing that happen again (because he did not call the play). That was one of the few things Bradshaw was right about in his tenure at UK.
Seiple went on to play (punter) for Miami when Larry Csonka was in the backfield and Bob Griese at QB and they went 16-0, if I recall that correctly.
AS FOR CM, this thread has been so accurate, so telling, so exposing of SOME of the traitor-CM actions, that I just have to post yet another confirmation that this thread contains FACTS about CM, Oswald and Roselle - an evil trio - who cared absolutely NOTHING positive about UK, but had their own NEGATIVE LIBERAL AGENDAS.
UK has been the FIRST to hire minorities in MANY POSITIONS, whereas some like NC, Duke, UConn, UCLA and many others have NEVER come close to what UK has done... for YEARS. Yet, we still get the false label of being a racist school. So tired of the liberal, lying media and all their "stories" through the years.
I took my family to the Omni (home of the Atlanta Hawks) to watch UK beat UGAand enjoyed the UK "home" crowd which dominated the arena with about 75% to 80% UK fans, at what was technically a home SEC game for UGA. If I recall correctly, and must admit my memory sometimes slips a little, Eric Manual had an impressive game. Hugh Durham could not take it any more, since it was just Rupp Arena away from home, and since then, UGA will only play UK in the little arena in Athens (as a Home SEC game for UGA). Manuel had STAR written all over him. Rex Chapman was on that team, if my old memory serves me right. What a shame that grown men with high ranking and high paying jobs would throw a young man like Eric Manuel under the bus, along with the UK basketball program, and those guys never were and never will be held accountable. Corruption.
Thanks Cat2000 for starting this thread, IRONHORSE for moving it to the top, gakat2 for suggesting it be there, and for the FACTS & Information posted by Cat2000, rr, WCV, gakat2 and all who contributed.

I remember Larry Sieple's fake punt like it was yesterday. For a couple of years we had some of the best individual talent in the SEC with Rick Norton, Rick Kestner, Sam Ball, Larry Sieple and several others. But Bradshaw had them so beat up due to his practice techniques that they came into the game wearing casts on their arms and legs. The game was a picnic compared to what they had to go through during the week. If you weren't hard nose tough, you wouldn't surive a week of Charlie Bradshaw. No team in history went through what the Thin Thirty went through.
A couple of years ago I was talking to an "alumni" of Charlie Bradshaw's Thin Thirty. He said when recruits came on campus some players would pull them aside and whisper in their ear, "get the hell out of here and don't even think about coming to this place". But on the other hand I was talking to Rick Kestner and he said Charlie Bradshaw was tough but he came from Belfry and had a coach named "Bear Meat". He said he would put "Bear Meat" up against Bradshaw any day of the week. He knew what hard practices were and he laughed when he said at least at UK they worked out on grass. At Belfry they had a flat piece of ground that was covered with coal ash and a bone pile from the mines. The closest grass turf was over in West Virginia. He said you didn't want to get tackled because if you went down you would rip the hide off of your arms and legs. It was a different world back then.

Gakat I was at that game when Fran came to town and its funny but the one thing I remembered about the game,
It rained like ive never seen it rain before.
I was also at the game the Seiple faked that punt. It was a night game against #1 Mississippi and it was a 4th and 42 and we were on our own 16 yard line. Seiple faked the punt and ran it for 84 yards and a TD. I think we won the game 16-9, but we won I do know that.
And as CHL said, if Georgia thought they were viewed as on par with UK in football, their coach wouldnt last till lunch time. TODAY.
They dont see it that way nor should we, but we are at least trying which is more than we used to do,

By the way, those Mississippi teams of the 1960's under Johnny Vaught were some of the most powerful teams in SEC history. When you beat Mississippi back in those days you were doing something. Few teams did. I also agree, we are at least making an effort now to improve our football program but we still have a long way to go to catch up with our Brothers in the SEC. But we can do it with support from the new administration. The new hire for President will make or break our athletic program. We better be careful who we bring in.
