We have all seen the scenes of X and Cincy and "The Brawl" It was a terrible scene. We have seen the students charge the floor at IU against UK and how if it had not been for one of the UK assistants MKG would have been in a brutal confrontation with another student who had charged him. Or with Miller lying flat on his back 4 students ran over him or The UNC/FSU game Saturday. Fans charging the floor and Williams being warned to get his starters off the floor early in fear of their safety.
Couple all of this with a game like the officials called in the UK/TN game and one day, and its going to happen sooner than later your going to have students charge the floor DURING a game to confront officials with what they perceive as terrible one sided officiating.
Mark my words, fans are getting way too comfortable in charging the floor. Too this point its been when the fans were in a good mood, one day soon they wont be and when it does, it will be horrific.
I'm not sure if in going to UK games, home and away, Ive seen UK fans run out on the floor. That goes back to the 50s. Not sure if Ive ever seen it before even when we won championships.

People used to throw coins on the floor back in the day when the officiating was terrible....don't see that much anymore....but I agree about storming the floor....I was very concerned that Darius was going to get hurt because he was laying on the floor....the leagues should fine the hell out of schools that allow that to happen...

Eventually, this will lead to soccer game style seating...with fences surrounding the floor to protect players and officials. I can't see any other way to keep this from happening. The students don't care about fines. The schools do...but students do not.
How much fun would a basketball game be if there were fences and turn-styles separating the players from the fans? An ignorant minority will ruin things for the majority.

Just seems to be a different feel this time around. I remember the coins from years ago, but these fans are out of control when they hit the floor and there is no way a few police can stop 5000 fans running on the floor.

We have allowed society to teach our children to respect no one especially authority. This will just be one of the symptoms of society breaking down. Life sure seemed alot more sensible when we had those horrible, hateful things like the Golden Rule, The Ten Commandments and the Pledge in schools across the country---when you teach children that there are no consequences for their actions and that everybody should get a trophy--this is what happens.

All they need to do is put fiberglass around the courts like hockey has...end of problem. Can we allow checking to occur then too? That'd be kind of cool for a game or two...

One way to keep people from storming the court would be to place snipers in the rafters who would randomly pick off a few people each time it happened.

If they hit the school with a huge fine and then the ncaa makes a rule that the student section will be empty for the next two games of any school that storms the floor then you would see this problem slowed down or stopped. OP is correct a players season will be over because of injury.

This hurts me to the very core of my manhood--but--I AGREE with reggis. My only caveat would be to make it 2 SEASONS with no students.

Sooner or later someone will probably get hurt and they'll sue the school, the players, the fans, and everyone else trying to get paid
That said, I don't think its that big of a deal. I would never condone rushing the court at UK - but that is a pride thing, not a safety thing.
But if I was at a lesser school like Duke or North Carolina and a college student, I'd want that to be part of the experience.
Fans have been hurt from rushing the field during a football game - from football players in pads knocking them on their ass to goal posts hitting them as they were brought down. It would be a tragedy is someone got seriously hurt or god forbid died, but its still a college tradition.
Right now I'm of the mind to say let them have their fun, and if I'm at a game where it happens, I'll keep my old ass in my seat where I belong.
and let me say again, AT UK we do not rush the court, that is OUR tradition.
