Is known here I am somewhat:) against gun ownership. But I do realize it is in constitution and I respect that. Though within reason.
I know many if not all on here are staunch defenders of gun ownership.
I ask would this be a acceptable compromise that gun enthusiast would tolerate?
Traditional Hunting rifles same as now ...... no issue with these at all.
Hand guns n shotguns (the 2 types most used for self n home defense). To own these one would need to take a 1 day safety class and get approval by a certified psychiatrist or a behavioral psychologist.
Would ban use of hollow point and rhino (armor piercing) bullets.
Assault rifles or the like. Required same safety class n eval. This is a big touchy subject for both sides. Guns like the AK an AR 15 etc. While I see no use for these guns except for causing trouble I can respect the right to own them. But 1 squeeze 1 bullet nothing automatic at all. As long as it's not automatic they are pretty much big fancy hand guns with larger bullet capacity.
True the assault style guns are easy to convert to fully auto. If a person that owns any gun and converts it to automatic they get a heavy fine and lose gun ownership rights indefinitely and or jail time depending on situation.
Would this be something gun owners and enthusiasts could live with?

Automatic weapons made AFTER 1986 are not allowed to be sold to anyone in the USA. Automatic weapons made and sold before 1987 can be sold, but a Fed fee must be paid and background check passed. Sadly, such full automatic weapons now cost $6,000 and up to $15,000 because of demand and lack of available such weapons for sale.
FULL automatic means 1 pull of the trigger and all the rounds in the magazine fire until empty. Could be 10, 35, 50, 100 or more---unloaded quickly with 1 pull of the trigger(and held).
SEMI-auto weapons require a trigger pull to fire each round.
LAWS exist that provide sever penalty for altering a semi-auto into an AUTO weapon. YEARS in prison and huge $$$$fines are attached.
Time those with little or ZERO understanding of weapons, weapons sales and guidelines and laws pertaining to weapons--time for those uneducated LEARNED the laws before spouting about that which they know little or in most cases--nothing.
GET educated before demonstrating stupidity about the subject.
rr
So--those who have no awareness of the law about AUTO-matic weapons keep wanting them bANNED. Essentially, because of PRICE, they are banned.

But on the 1 inch analogy..... same can be said on both sides of Aisle.

The American people at large do not need additional gun control. This whole thing is not about gun control, its about people control, I suspect less then .1 of 1% use guns illegaly.
Require training fine, require continuing training fine, but additional control ain't needed besides its blatantly nationally unconstitutional. If a local curb is wanted by the village, town, or State populace and its clear by vote so be it in that area. I just won't live there.
Been around handguns, hunting guns etc all my life own a couple I was taught to respect the weapons, but never taught that they were anything but protection and hunting tools and how to use them responsibly. AR-15 and clones of same are about as far from an assault weapon as a bolt action 22 is from an AR-15. Can stuff be modified? Of course we have a lot of machinist and skilled folks in this country and easy access to plans. If guns are banned just AR-15 etc. they will be fabricated illicitly and totally uncontrolled and untraceable. I will even say you can do background checks but this bares a danger too as heresay or error in record could get one in trouble through no fault of their own. I would however support more stringent background checks. I also think that on open carry it should be good across all state lines that insures uniform preparation and training, same for C and C but I'm less enthusiastic about uniform carry laws on that.
Embrace the 2nd Amendment, its actually one of the Amendments that's not atrociously abused by 99.9% of folks

The second Amendment is really the only Amendment that means anything long term because without the 2nd, people would lose the rest as a result.
