I understand Digger , Knight as they hate UK in gereneral and will never be unbiased.
But
Vitale - he rides the hot hand and always has great things to say about Uk - He is crazy and all that and he gives alot of praise to UNC and Duke but us as well.
Bilas - the most unbiased best analyst out there
why are these two hated so much don't get it

I would have to say Bilas is better to listen to than most these days, but that's really just because everyone else is so terrible at their jobs. It seems to me there are just not enough really intelligent guys announcing games, with respect to understanding the nuts and bolts of the game. There are a lot of guys who either a) are former athletes or coaches, but are idiots; or b) dorks with journalism degrees who don't know shit from shinola about how the game is played..
What sometimes irritates me is that often the same people who complain about Vitale's antics are the same people who will complain that Kyle Macy, for instance, is too boring. Do you need to be entertained by the announcer when you watch a basketball game or not? Personally, I don't. I wish they'd shut up about stupid crap and analyze the game. IMO, two of the best announcers I hear these days are actually both in football, imo - Garry Danielson in college and Phil Simms in the NFL. Simms is a gigantic asshole, or so I hear, but at least you learn about the game when you watch one of his broadcasts. How much are you gonna learn listening to a Vitale game? Nothing. Or God forbid a Dave Baker game. I'd rather listen to that ugly woman they stick us with sometimes during men's college games.
As for radio, you may as well just quit hoping there is anyone halfway decent. The days of an announcer like Cawood Ledford are deader than a doornail apparently. They'd probably say Cawood was not bombastic enough to be on radio today to call the game, or something stupid. The most crucial point of radio broadcasting is to call the game without "lag." When there is lag time between the ball going in the basket, then the crowd cheering so that you can tell something has happened, and THEN the announcer tells you what happened, that is horrendous radio broadcasting. You end up just listening to whether the crowd cheered or groaned to know what happened first, which is why listening to a game on the radio today is so damn annoying - when there is lag, you are left frustrated that you aren't witnessing the action live, and you just wish you could watch the TV. When there is NO lag, as Cawood called the game, he'd say something like, "Teague, hands off to Jones. Jones passes to Lamb. Lamb's going up from 20 feet! IN there!" And THEN the crowd erupts. You are able to experience the action simultaneously as it happens along with the crowd, and thus you feel like you are at the game, or that the action is being painted perfectly for you. And you don't just sit there wishing you could see the game on TV. And THAT, is a wonderful thing. Cawood could do that and yet it never felt rushed. Listen to today's radio games and you just don't hear it called worth a shit. They are more interested in yelling silly catch phrases and flapping their jaws without telling you anything worthwhile. They probably think they are good at it, when they actually suck at it. That's the problem with Cawood. Listen to him for 5 minutes, and you are ruined forever. Once you have heard how brilliant a radio broadcast can be when done to perfection, it is hard to enjoy the jokers we are stuck with today. Leach is not that bad, but my goodness, Cawood could have been woken out of his sleep at 3 a.m., beat over the head with a baseball bat, and thrown in front of a microphone and he would've still done twice the job.

Cawood--Faulconer--Sullivan---all GREAT UK b'ball announcers who let the UK game be the important issue---not grandstanding and wild exclamations over a simple made shot. All the media types who covered for, excused, luved, and defended teflonturd deserve ZERO respect. rr

I could even try to give a media guy a second chance if he would just admit publicly that he was DEAD wrong about Tubby, BUT - I have yet to hear ONE single person admit it. Nice post Chop - I still remember growing up in Owensboro and listening to Cawood on a week night or a Saturday afternoon. You are spot on Chop - the current crop of bozos are too interested in hearing their jaws flap than calling a game. The TV guys couldn't call a game if their lives depended on it. Unfortunately I don't see that changing any time soon - we're stuck with guys like Dave Baker for the foreseeable future.

I liked Cawood, but Sullivan was my favorite. You guys just don't know, in those day's I loved Kentucky basketball, now it's like watching a bunch of mercenaries. I just can't bond with these guy's, I guess it's because they don't stick around long enough ............. I still am a fan but it's not the same .......... #th_frown#

I was just about in tears when Cawood was calling the UK vs. Duke game back in 1992. Some of my best childhood memories of me and my dad were sitting in his room playing poker and listening to Cawood call the game on the radio. And the reception was pitiful. And I would prefer to listen to static with Cawood's words coming through occasionally than I would listening to these jackasses say "rim run" and "you can tell tubbi's a great coach because he calls great plays even when they don't work".
As to DukieV, I have hated him for 30 years. I think he has led the circus that has destroyed the value of announcers. His tirade about how no coach should even consider the job at UK after what we did to tubbi, was ridiculous. Did he not realize that tubbi left UK on his own? I have no use for him.
I think Bilas is a half decent announcer, but his hanging from tub's nutsack caused my dislike. His constant barrage of verbal assaults on how horrible UK fans are, and how tubbi is a HOF coach, makes me sick every time I hear his name.
But, that's just me.
