He may be on defense intimidation and shot blocking but isn't the rebounder AD was and no where near AD's level on Offense. Not saying he isn't a GREAT player --- AD is is a once in a generation player -- Noel is reallly really good but not at AD's level.
so don't don't handwring when he isn't an instant AD.
We need Oriahi and/ or Bennett for rebounds and Wiltjer need to be able to play some 3
our 2012/13 team
Harrow Goodwin Alex / Wiltjer Bennett ( or Oriahi) / Wiltjer Noel / Cauley
Cal seems to want Oriahi we will see
just a hunch I think the kid from Miss ST has an impact next year at point relief and SG relief
everyone but Noel can shoot it
we are a top 3 team going in next year if not #1 preseason.

Yeah, Noel was the number 1 ranked player because he's a bum. I wish I was a smart as some of the experts on here.

Nerlens will be working on his game at UK...he will play with some great players, probably a bunch of NBA level guys at the Craft Center...he will greatly improve on an already good game.

He may be on defense intimidation and shot blocking but isn't the rebounder AD was and no where near AD's level on Offense. AD wasn't an elite rebounder from day one last year either. If I remember correctly, he didn't want the contact in the paint. Cal coached the toughness out of him. Nerlens is as athletic as hell and has a good post game. He isn't the shooter and doesn't run as well as AD yet. My guess is Cal will work on his toughness immediately to dominate the paint and the offense will develop over the season. Nerlens is an impact player.

Nerlens Noel has the physical gifts to dominate his position like Davis did. Poythress can dominate his position, along with Goodwin. These players have the physicality and athleticism..all they need is coaching, motivation and experience. There is no better place than KENTUCKY to do that.

Ive got to disagree with the premise that Noel is not going to be AD.
Many many coaches and observers think this is the best blocker that they have ever seen. Now if you go back and look at AD he was a good blocker but not what he came to be for sure.
Noel will be a huge factor in the paint, as much if not more than AD in that dept. He has the strength to be a great rebounder as well. The offense, that appears to be a minor weakness. Remember AD at the first of the year? Dunks and lobs, but as the year went on, here comes a 15 foot jumper. A left handed sky hook, a right handed sky hook.
Im anxious as hell to see this guy but then again Im anxious to see all of Cals recruits.

Noel is further ahead of Davis at this same point in their career. Noel is also more ready physically than Davis was entering college.
Will he turn out to be the impact player that Davis was? No one knows. It will sure be fun as hell finding out, though.

Totally different players and no one should compare them to each other expect for the shot blocking/rebounding stuff.
One was a guard that grew into a big man. That was his second year playing center. That is why he has such nice handle and good shot form.
Noel has been a big man his whole life. Has always been in the paint. Never played guard.
They are both great players but Davis is a once in a life time player.

I'll get to watch him every night next year. I wish there was some crazy way Dallas won the lottery. LOL

NO AD always had a really good shooting motion and offense as he showed in HS -- he didn't hit his college stride unitil mid Jan. On D Noel is just as good maybe better than AD but far from the complete player AD is /was -- JMO

Right now, Noel is at the same point as Davis for this time last year. Other team mates might do better. Noel might not block as many and might score more than Davis. He might have more rebounds. We have wait to see. He may be better than Davis. Davis still surprised us all. Noel could to.
