I have been informed as of a month ago that my cholesterol was elevated, as well as my blood sugar, so I have to give up all the good foods (or so I thought).
I've found eating healthy you have to cook more and plan more meals. I have found a solid diet based on rice/beans/pasta/chicken, as well as super lean beef in small portions every other day.
Low sugar Alfredo sauce and Marinara sauce can be used in conjuction with the ingredients I mention to make some great meals.
For snacks, radishes and unsalted nuts work great. No sodas, so I switched to green tea with no sugar and lots of water.
A typical meal of mine is either chicken or lean beef "Alfredo" with rice or pasta using hot peppers as the flavor booster and Mrs Dash (Spicy).
So far, in the last 30 days I have reduced my weight from 204 down to 178. I do exercises every hour I am at home.
I go back in 2 months to see if I have this under control. No matter what, I have discovered that eating healthy does not mean the food isn't great tasting, I just have to hang out in the vegetable department more at Kroger and buy low sodium and low sugar sauces. With all that, I have rediscovered great meals.
I buy Lean hamburger that is 96% fat free. I eat small steaks plain (Some will be glad to hear that)
Feeling great, have more energy and food is like another hobby of mine. Lost 26 pounds and make my own healthy pizzas using whole wheat crusts.
Just thought I would share.

It's heck getting old and falling apart. I have several medical issues that all require diet adjustments. That adds up to a lot of forbidden items. Sometimes they coincide and other times they are in addition. Sometimes I feel like I am not supposed to eat anything. Anyhow, my point is that I can relate to your problem. Glad you are losing weight and feeling better. I read this book many years ago. It might interest you. If you google it, there's also a utube that comes up, but I didn't watch it or link it because it was 17 or 18 minutes long. www.amazon.com/Your-Bodys-Many-Cries-Water/dp/1452656975

I was taking prescription sinus meds when I read this book. The directions for the meds read "take with water". By increasing my water intake, I found I no longer needed the meds because the increased water took care of the problem. BTW, I don't know if sinus meds still do or not, but they used to have negative effects on the prostate.
I have a friend in his sixties who was still very active playing basketball. He started having joint and muscle pain that was so bad it was stopping him from playing. I talked to him about his water intake and he was drinking little water and lots of coffee. I encouraged him to greatly increase the water and lower the caffeine drinks like coffee. He did so and is back to playing ball regular without pain.

It makes sense, as our body is comprised of water as its main ingredient. I like water best when its cold.

Had my blood checked, my blood sugar is much lower and my cholesterol is down 35%. Doc said I could cancel my appointment next week and to continue my exercise program and stay on my diet. Chicken/Rice Maranara with jalepino and bell peppers tonight.

Glad you got a good report. I normally eat Cheerios for breakfast. That's not so strange, but I use lemonade (all natural ingredients) instead of milk. Everyone laughs at me, but you get used to it. I've had 2 kidney stone surgeries. On the first one, I was almost totally blocked (drove myself to the hospital-only a short drive). The doc said it could've killed me. I'll trade milk for lemonade any day to avoid another surgery.

On another related matter involving this diet, I prepare brown rice daily for the foundation of my meals, and that involves boiling. You've probably heard the old wives tale that states "A watched pot never boils"? I call total bullshit on that one. I can watch it turn to a boil evey time.

Another side effect to eating mostly rice and vegetables is the fact that I wake up farting and go to bed farting. In between those times, I blast hundreds of EPIC farts that previously I never dreamed could have so much bass. I have a house full of awesome cats, but they just dont know what to think of never ending flatulance. My thing is.....I dont want to smell em, I just want to hear em. The Cats could do without either. So I buy them extra kitty treats and for that, they let me stay here. One other note: I found an Arizona Ice tea that comes in 12 pack cans with less than a gram of sugar that has Ginsing in them. I went to all the local stores and bought them all out of this tea. I have stacks and stacks of Ice tea and bagged rice. Probably could live years on this stuff without leaving the house. I buy all the tea and jasmine rice I see when I see it.
