Way to go catman!
I've done most of the things you have and am in good shape for almost 56. I run, lift and practice good portion control, BUT the outlier for me is my addiction to sweet tea. I gave up soft drinks years ago and had started drinking unsweet with sweetener, but sweetener is bad for you like bluefinger mentioned, so I went back to regular sweet. That is my only regular refined sugar intake - I've given up candy and most other sweets - and I don't drink coffee, so it's my caffeine fix too. I'm trying to cut back to where tea is a cheat treat, but it is a process as sugar is addictive.

I buy Arizona "zero" green tea in the 11 OZ cans....its very low in sugar (less than 1 gram) and it tastes great. I always maintain an inventory of at least 15 cases of this great product. It also contains Ginsing and is an antioxidant. Very healthy and tastey.

I love to eat. So I run. I love steaks. I love Mexican food. I love pizza. I love a good margarita with Mexican. Or just by itself. I love cold beer. I love a good wine with my steaks. I love ice cream. So I run.
I hate to run. I run 4 miles 3 times a week. I used to get my running in playing ball but now you can't get 10 guys together regularly. So I frickin run!!
It's about time to turn to the treadmill. That's even worse. But I'll keep running so I can eat.

Gotta cut sugar out of your diet as much as you possibly can. Most of us (almost all of us, seeing as I am still somewhat young at 36 years old) were raised in an era where fat was demonized. In past decades, the sugar industry used the same playbook that the tobacco industry used in terms of marketing and deflection. They made fat the culprit. And sodium. And while it is of course very complicated, if you want to boil it down to one simple rule, sugar is the devil. Cut that out of your diet as much as you can, and you will see tremendous gains in nearly every aspect of your health. I eat as much fat and protein as I want, more or less, but avoid the carbs and sugar, and it isn't even hard to maintain a low weight with much more muscle tone and healthy indicators in almost all areas. It is as simple as that, and you will see your body transform, without a great deal of exercise. I am 6'2" and used to weigh about 220, and nobody would have ever called me "fat" by any means. But in the last year, I've changed my diet to reduce carbs/sugar and I easily walk around at about 195 pounds and it isn't even difficult. Luckily, I have never really cared much about sweets, so that makes it easier for me - I am more of a meat and cheese, fat and protein type of guy anyway, from a taste standpoint - so I realize it may be harder for a person that has a bigtime sweet tooth, and that would take more willpower. But it is worth the effort. Everything you have said about your diet change and results makes complete sense to me Kman. Congrats.
For anyone who would like to take a couple hours to learn more about it, and I promise it is worth your time if you are interested - go on Amazon (or wherever) and watch a movie called That Sugar Film. A good amount of explanation and truth are presented in a pretty watchable way. It's a good place to start before embarking on a serious diet change that can change your life and make you glad and proud you did.

I agree 100% Chop, sugar is the big enemy. I have given up sweets in my diet. The worst thing one can consume is soft drinks. No more pie, cookies, soft drinks, cake, or anything that uses sugar.
By changing my diet, it's probably added 15 years to my life expectancy and added more quality to my lifestyle.
Yes, sugar is kryptonite to humans.

Was bored and went back to read some of the non-sport stuff, my question is where the heck do you find good Mexican (more likely tex-mex) in the area? by the way I don't get home much anymore as my parents passed just before Thanksgiving but where do you think the Best Steak house is up there? I used to go back in the stone age to Roco Bar in Evansville for a great pizza, at least I liked it, old style thin crisp crust always with a couple of burnt bubbles of cheese on the pie. My family up there think that driving from Henderson to Evansville is a long tough trip so I haven't indulged much in the last few years when I was home.

My family up there think that driving from Henderson to Evansville is a long tough trip so I haven't indulged much in the last few years when I was home. There's several Mexican restaurants here now. My favorite is ElBracero. But you're right, it's more TexMex. I mainly like if for the margaritas. I don't know that there is a good steakhouse in Hopkins county now. I prefer to cook my own anyway. But if we are going out for steaks we will go to the Horseshoe in Hopkinsville. Or the Novadell in Hopkinsville. In Evansville maybe Smitty's for steaks or House of Como. We just took the inlaws for steack for their anniversary. He wanted steak so we went to The Briarpatch in Owensboro. We also like The Miller House and Colby's in Owensboro. Speaking of the RoCA Bar, I used to go there all the time when I lived in Henderson. That's when Bruce Pearl was coaching USI and he would be in there holding court. Fun times! Jim Crews was coach Evansville back then. He would be in there sometimes but he's not a fun guy. We were just at the Roca Bar a couple weeks ago. First time in years. It was the same as always. For pizza in Evansville we are partial to Turoni's. And it's own by Don Mattingly's sister. Next time you get back up this give me a shout. We'll hook up and find something good.

may just do that JD glad to see the RoCa Bar is still going. I had forgotten about Smittys. Been to the Briarpatch several times as my brother lives in Owensboro and he's partial to it.
Thanks for getting back.
