We cannot go back to the gold standard n we will not. Whether it was better or would be better ...... we are married to the fiat system better or worse. There is no feasible way to go back. I don't know if its feasible to go back to the gold standard not so sure there is enough gold mined or unmined in or in banks, vaults etc. in the world to do that. I think we would all be better off if we were on the gold standard but I'm with Streeter on this, I don't think its viable besides those that got money will still have money because they can buy the gold even at inflated rates. I'm not sure there is any real indication we would be going to the gold standard. As for the fed its a quasi governmental animal that was created by a bunch of folks as a hedge against financial crisis I believe Woodrow Wilson was president when it was implemented. It controls loan rates and as a result the money you borrow. They don't answer to many and are pretty impervious to anything. The GAO theoretically does oversite but it does not oversee MOST policy actions, decisions and including direct loans to financial institutions and open market actions/transactions made under something called Federal Open Market Committee, dealings with foreign governments and other central banks. i.e they control the Money, not congress. This Fed moment is brought to by a cynic on the good of the fed.
