I met with Rupp for about 30 minutes, discussing walking on as a frosh. Anyone with a b'ball skill could "tryout", but after a little thought and recognizing my priority--get out of college asap as cheaply as possible--I never made the effort. No regrets ever. Life is about making choices, the more good ones, the better the results. sorta like "LUCK", the harder one works, the luckier they are. rr We all make choices good and bad what makes the difference is do we learn from the bad or do we keep repeating. Was I lucky to get scholly's well maybe but I can tell you I worked my butt off and I had fun and great memory's from it. My degrees are a product of good teaching, work, and want to that really kicked in after the first semester of my sophomore year. That's when I realized I had to manage my time and how to do it and still party. I had great teachers truly interested in teaching and helping you if you needed it. I can only remember one prof who as a teacher sucked, he was a mechanical engineer and taught Thermo interested only in his research which if I remember he was pretty well known for he published a lot. Your comment about luck is pretty darn true, a person tends to make their own luck, hard work, being open and willing to listen and communicate, and yes circumstances that one puts themselves in luck seems to happen in those cases

Why as a parent would i pay big bucks for my kid to take classes on line for that matter how you gonna test without rampant cheating? In engineering for example you can google how to work some types of problems solution manuals are available if tested out of text problems. Uk looking at stopping classes at thanksgiving for a long brea doing away with fall break and longer classes. Dont thiink that will work college profs dont like long days takes away from research and grad student days would be very long. Geeez just do the normal school year my son starts Northwestern in the fall or is supposed to no no clue as its Illnois. Its been paid since he was born ...... but if they dont let kids attend class I will hold his ass back a year on sheer principle. Northwestern is 65K total a year ....... to take internet classes ..... they can pound sand ...good for you!...that's part of the college experience is being there!...

I was at UK from 70-74 inclusive of masters had a scholly in fact two of 'em that being said tuition never got more then 290 a semester R and B about 600 at the new Kirwan (at that time...damn I'm getting old). total cost was a bit over 6000 accounting for starting - ending tuition and R & B. I got a quality education in particular for a place that's supposed to be backward according to the eastern and western elites, had a great collage experience had a 20 minute personal conversation with Coach Rupp while doing some injury rehab not cause he had to by the way, but because he wanted to and was interested. UK was actually fairly activist then less so then in RR's time, but it was a University no damn snow flakes on campus, just young semi adults. The only things that have changed really are the babified hurt feeling students, profs that like the academic life and control of our minds, and too damn much money being spent on things other than the educational experience. Hell except for one class (dynamics) I had full professors teaching labs included, and the dynamics class was taught by a Physics Phd grad student who had a MS in Engineering Mechanics. Even my damn American history classes were taught by a full prof. RR is correct, folks are getting screwed at the state level I can't imagine how much on the private college level. Like Streeter my wife and I saved for her education she got a scholly for soccer which until her senior year was a bout 1/4 of the tuition so we were prepared. Now I'm happy to say my daughter makes almost as much as a COO for a company more as my wife and I together. Rice be expensive too but oddly if you need the money schollys and grants to aid the tuition are plentiful and one wouldn't have to go broke to get em. College is great but not all are cut out for or should be in college, it wasn't in my time and shouldn't be today an advanced day care center. Teaching great vocations in HS is honorable and gives some a chance to go to work make money and if the urge hits and the sense to apply ones self hits 'em they can go to college learning something that will help in their vocations. And no offense to anyone other then buying a lottery ticket I do not feel the need to pay for everyone's college, I know things are harder but college isn't a God given right or a government right, its a personal choice that we as a public don't need to pay for. Lol I was at Kirwan as well as a freshman.
