That is likely part of it, but what year was it when he pissed off Nike? Seems like ever since, other teams started gettin some of the very best players. At that point his "coachin" ability started telling on him.

My theory on what happened to Calipari. In 2015 when Calipari was openly wanting to go 40-0 he was approached by a shady person, possibly named Guido from Vegas where the odds of going 40-0 would have cost Vegas a HUGE Fortune. We had just made the FF at 38-0.... They warned him/paid him/threatened him/ It makes sense, only theory. But he was never the same.

It's amazing to watch that and the pure adulation of the fans over that team and championship. As for the question how was it lost, I think we saw the three reasons step off that bus, of course it was the players, Anthony Davis was a generational talent and was surrounded by role players that made that team so dominant, the other two reasons were Kenny Payne and John Robic. Kenny Payne was Donut's link to the players and John Robic was the x and o man that watched film and developed the game plan. Losing those three, he was never able to recruit the same type of player, he lost Robic and Kenny in 2019 leaving Donut to his own device which is when the wheels came off.
